WHAT WE USE:

As the government prepares to introduce household meter payments for a resource we all take for granted, the question of how much water we use is set to become a daily preoccupation.

The following is an average estimate of the quantity of water used or wasted in routine household and personal hygiene tasks,

Flushing a toilet 8 litres

oral hygiene 8 litres ( if tap left running)

Gravity shower 35 litres

power shower 80 litres

Washing machine 65 litres

Dish Washer 65 litres

Watering the garden 25 litres

Washing the car by bucket 32 litres

Washing the car by hose 400 litres

Commerical water users in our surrounding counties are already paying by a meter system, everyone who run’s a business pays for water by the cubic meter, based on how much they use.

In the agriculture sector dairy farmers are the biggest water consumers, a dairy cow can drink 135 liters a day, dry stock will drink on average 45 litres. Most farmers want a flow of 600 gallons per hour.A farmer with 50 milking cows will use 2000 cubic metres of water in a year.
