CHARGES ENCOURAGE PROPERTY OWNERS TO DRILL FOR WATER

WHAT WE USE:
As the government prepares to introduce household meter payments for a resource we all take for granted, the question of how much water we use is set to become a daily preoccupation.
The following is an average estimate of the quantity of water used or wasted in routine household and personal hygiene tasks,
- Flushing a toilet 8 litres
- oral hygiene 8 litres ( if tap left running)
- Gravity shower 35 litres
- power shower 80 litres
- Washing machine 65 litres
- Dish Washer 65 litres
- Watering the garden 25 litres
- Washing the car by bucket 32 litres
- Washing the car by hose 400 litres
Commerical water users in our surrounding counties are already paying by a meter system, everyone who run’s a business pays for water by the cubic meter, based on how much they use.
In the agriculture sector dairy farmers are the biggest water consumers, a dairy cow can drink 135 liters a day, dry stock will drink on average 45 litres.Most farmers want a flow of 600 gallons per hour.A farmer with 50 milking cows will use 2000 cubic metres of water in a year.
